Most problems concerning the Scanwill Pressure Intensifiers are caused by the following 4 factors:
1. Contamination of the fluid If the oil is contaminated it is the danger of 1, particles will be caught between the seat and the ball of the check valves. This will result in the intensifier continuously working, but will not be able to build up pressure.
Also Particles in the oil may be moved along the grinded bores 2, and destroy the surface, which will lead to internal leakage over the pistons.
To avoid these problems a pressure filter should be inserted before the intensifier.

1). The oil is supplied to the "P" port and pases through the check valve CV1, CV2 and pilot operated check valve POV (option) to the high‐pressure side. At the same time, the "T" port is connected to the tank. Now the entire flow of the pump will pass straight through the intensifier, and a cylinder on the high‐pressure side "H" will move rapidly forwards.
In hydraulic systems, it is often necessary to use varying operating pressures. A system which works perfectly with a high rate of efficiency can be achieved only if it is possible to adjust the pressure precisely to the load in question.
Using pressure intensifiers, designers have greater flexibility with regard to choice of operating pressure. The hydraulic load becomes more uniform throughout the machine's cycle. The pressure intensifier starts to work only when there is a need for a high pressure.The rest of the time it is passive, has no internal consumption and thus does not influence the performance of the system.
